Day 18: If social media could be a drink

Facebook- They think they're cool because they have over 50 Billion users. They think they are unstoppable. Zuckerberg you are a nerd who tried to be cool. Congrats, you're rich now. Stop trying to be cool because you have money and I'm sure you already have robot friends next you your blow up doll that give you you're own OJ, Sorry I'm terrible with these things I mean BJ. you forced your way to having 50 billion friends who use you for your science on computers. Facebook is the kind of drink that you get screwed over on when you witness your biggest crush get into a relationship with who you thought was your best friend but really has been talking about you behind your back about your hairy toe. It is really hairy though. So you vent on your status in under 420 characters about how heart broken you are. Then its over. Facebook is a Jager Bomb. Its one and DONE.

Twitter-Apparently Facebook isn't as immediate so let's have something were we talk about when we went to the bathroom, how many quarters are on the floor oh and my favorite "Isn't my new hair cute so cute!". Twitter you're a girl with needs so let's call you the Mother of all Strawberry Daiquiris. The one with the whiny bitch holding it crying over her non-existent boyfriend back in High School. Okay, So we've all been there. Even I HAD a boyfriend...once.

Myspace-You were a hit in 2005, but then Facebook Happened, and somehow you became everybody's sloppy seconds. Occasionally a crappy band will post a song or two, not realizing this will get them absolutely NO exposure. I hate to say this, you're a has been. I love that your profile page could have a bit more creativity than Facebook's plain blue and white template. You are the Gin and Tonic. They taste great at first, but then they seem to catch up with you until you're a huge flippin mess.
tumblr- I'm not going to lie I'm one of these users. Tumblr people are nuts. Constantly on at hours at a time, even all night for those fap nights (if you know what I mean) Tumblr isn't even a drink, it's a drug. Tumblr in substance for is flipping Ecstasy and I'd love for someone to argue about that. Ever see someone panic if no one like their post....that they REBLOGGED? Didn't think so.

Instagram- I don't know what this is. Something that people use to take pictures with. To me, it sounds like a fucking camera. Nothing is special about that I'm sorry. you all sound like editing a picture was this trivial thing and now it's easy. You know how it started? Windows 95 with PAINT. You are a rum and coke. It's simple on the rocks, I guess it will do.

And Finally...

Blogspot- You started the blog, well in my eyes. Hell its in your name. You are in fact class with a bit of an edge. You help poor writers try to make something for themselves. It all start somewhere with the click of a blank word document you let our words travel endlessly. So what is the best traveler's drink? Something that holds in a flask of course. EVERYTHING. For me, it's bourbon.

"Sweet" 16+1

Courtesy of ireallylikefood.com
Day 17 has arrived and I cannot be happier! I am so happy that I treated myself to a little bit of ice cream and thought "hmm desserts and alcohol have to go together" Immediately I think back to my mother's rum cake she makes every year over the holidays and how odd I would find myself bouncing off the walls whenever I stole a piece during my childhood.I always noticed she would take this cake, and pour this amber liquid all over it and I just thought it was a magical glaze. Little did I know it was straight rum, and every year, when I was a kid I would take steal numerous slivers of that cake. Now I know it was rum. No wonder my grandmother always fell to sleep when she ate it.(sorry mom).

Rum is just one alcohol that you can create fancy desserts. I challenge all of you to broaden your horizons and bake with these interesting liqueurs. If you looked in my earlier entries I made Bailey's Brownies and they turned out to be outstanding. However, Bailey's is way too use. People use it because it is almost like a milk substitute and people won't feel strange trying it.

Sorry about the dry post yesterday. This is how I will make it up to you.

I am (because I am an idiot!) Making a challenge to myself when I come back home (I won't forget it!) to try to make desserts after my trusty baker/artist/I'mgreatateverything (Alyssa) teaches me how to bake (AND IF WE SURVIVE TO TELL THE TALE!) with the liqueurs you see below. I don't know what I'm going to make, but I will once I talk to my colleague and I brainstorm will have a few ideas. By the end of the summer I will give you the completed list and we(she) will make them!

Deal?

So first, a mini lesson on Liqueurs. These are in fact alcoholic beverages that have notes of sugar, herbs, and nuts. They don't normally have a lot a high alcohol proof (the cheap ones don't) but some can have up to at least 40% alcohol in them. This is of course the ones that I have been exposed to. I am not aware if there are any liqueurs with a higher proof.

The kinds of liqueurs are berry, creme, coffee, chocolate, herb, honey, and nut. There are a few others but not enough to be placed in their own category.

I want to be creative so I will try some realistic dessert ideas with these liqueurs. Then, I will go "Chopped" on your ass and try some zany flavors and figure out what We(she) can come up with.

And go!

The Lucky Liqueurs
  1. St. Germain-Elderflower
  2. Hypnotiq-Tropical Fruit
  3. Jagermeister -So many herbs shockingly
  4. Fernet Branca. This to me, is the most foul, of all liqueurs....lets do it
So my mother is a liar, well not really. I just assumed she made the rum cake from scratch. She actually got the recipe here. Try to make it for yourself.

Enjoy!

Sweet 16?

It's all downhill from here. No really, it's really all downhill because once the 28th hits it will mark the downhill of my job but the uphill of this summer. I'm just kidding, I hope.

It certainly doesn't feel like sixteen days have gone by, more like 29. It seems like its time for me to have a glass of wine in my hand to unwind from such a hectic week.

So there is this song by John Mayer I have been listening too all day and it just rings true to the dreams I've been having. It's called "Whiskey Whiskey Whiskey" This is a lame blog I know, but life must go on.

"Whiskey, whiskey, whiskey
Water, water, water
Sleep
Whiskey, whiskey, whiskey
Wake up, shake it off
And repeat"

Day 15: Bitch Fit

Why didn't I convince my self to have one off day? Why is there not RUM in this bottle of pepsi. The only purpose it serves is to keep me awake, because who knows when I'm going to be bothered again.

Who in the hell puts their room key in another room that is not for their room so it can get stuck? AT 16! Seriously, we can't figure out that if you're given a key for your room that only opens YOUR room, why stick it some place else? This is the perfect lesson for society for boys. Don't go stick your dick in just some random hole, or it will get stuck and then you'll be somebody's baby's daddy. This "challenged" person was a girl nonetheless. "YOU'RE ONLY HOLDING US BACK YOU KNOW WERE ALREADY OPPRESSED".

Ah! I need a shot of something, and water will not help me.

I'm halfway there. That's all I can keep telling myself is that I am halfway there and in the clear to finally relax.
You know, I'd find this situation to be hysterical if I were drunk. Hell, I'd probably hangout with these kids. Of course not, I'm sober, so I know right from wrong. I HATE living like that.

I've been told that I am relying on alcohol as a crutch. Who doesn't? I'm friendly when I drink, I am more willing to listen to you because I will have something in my hand to distract me so in theory I'm not really listening to you. There are benefits when I have this sweet elixer pumping through my veins.

I'm tolerable to. I feel as if I don't really have any friends here. I mean, I'm kind of their manager so I can imagine why they don't want to get too close. Many have spoke about going out a few times, until then I have two more weeks to cope through this all.

I should have said 28 days.

Day 14 the Liquor Store Review

I finally got a taste of the real aspect of Syracuse. My friend Katie took me down Wescott Avenue which is like a mini Elmwood Village for my Buffalo Natives. It's actually quite cute. There are a few restaurants that seem to always be busy which I like. Something about a busy restaurant just opens the door for a good time to me. I mean, sometimes if I'm looking for an intimate setting I do prefer something that isn't as loud, and with a big bathroom stall.

The point of our little trip was to check out the Wescott Liquor store. Now, Seeing as how I have been in Syracuse for the past two weeks, there are only tiny spots of interesting aspects of the city. I still have the whole summer to explore, so I have not completely knocked off the city as a wasteland. I also have not seen the suburbs and other aspects of the area as well which from what my friends who are from here have claimed to be quite the adventure. What I was not expecting, was the limited selection at a liquor store.

When I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome that really made me feel comfortable. Sadly at liquor stores and sometimes at the one I work at, we try to be friendly, but in the back of our minds we think "Are they going to steal today" It's not a racial thing, but I figured for a small city it would be. That was not the case and I thought that was awesome. Then the first thing I saw was Sutter Home, and Arbor Mist. I took a long breath and told myself that we sell the same things in Buffalo, this is a business and you have to cater to what everyone likes. What they did not have, were any good wines.

I think there were about four wines that I was willing to buy, and only about double when it came to spirits, maybe 10. I need to find another liquor store to compare to see if maybe they cater to a different audience. I was realistic with myself and  understood that this store is right by campus. Students aren't looking for class, their goal is to get drunk as fast and as cheap as possible. They are also located right across the street from a restaurant, so that can be useful for well drinks.

Hey, I was just happy I found a liquor store. I haven't even physically seen any alcohol since I've been here. I was starting to think that it didn't exist.

One thing that I have heard is a common around the city however are the prices. At Gates Circle Wine and Liquor we charge a handle of Svedka for $23.91 with tax. At Wescott, $27 +tax. I was blown away. I mag of Rex Golliath was $12.99 were you can get it at Gates for  $9.99 sometimes $8.99 for a sale. It's a good thing I'm getting paid as much as I am, because I will need it. I'm sure this will be cheaper at the bars here's hoping.

Again, the service was great, and they seem like a nice family owned store. I am a full supporter of small business, but seriously, take a dollar or two off your prices. I was even afraid to ask if they had any Cabernet's that were known for having more notes of eucalyptus, I don't even think the owner spoke a bit of english. I'm not saying that's bad, I'm just saying you have to know your product.

To make it even better, I was wearing a rugby shirt about drinking, didn't even get carded. Either I'm really old or the cashier had the hots for me since he gave me full service the whole time I was there. I'm guessing the latter.

I'll let you know if I find a better place. The store does have an awesome location and again, they mean well.

XII

I'm like a pack of eggs right now...of 12. These past five days I will say went by pretty quickly, but not quick enough.

What's helps me get through it all like any personal first world problem I'm faced with (like break ups, no food in the house that I WANT to eat) I watch movies. I have since my mom put a bottle of rum in my hands, so four. Okay, that's a lie you got me. It was Jim Bean. It helps teething don't judge her she's a wonderful mother.

Here are some fairly recent movies that I think that have great drinking moments.
"Wedding Crashers"(2005)- Yes I know typical wedding movie of course that's great for drinking. WRONG this is one of the best wedding movies ever! Aside from #4 of course. There is something about everything in this movie that just calls for a drink. I think the best scene is when Vince gets rubbed by Isla Fisher. If I was at that dinner party (aside from flirting with Rachel McAdams) I would of had a stiff one. Bad joke. Think of how many big names are in that movie! Owen Wilson, Christopher Walken,Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, Bradley Cooper, and wasn't Betty white's cousin in that too? I don't know.

"Ocean's 11" (1960, 2001)- It's sheer class. You have Las, Vegas, casinos, crime, and a little romance. I would love to see 11 guys get away with a job like that in my generation. It just won't happen.Especially now all we wanna do is reblog zombie apocalypse theories and still watch Teen Wolf. So instead, lets praise the people who could. Cheers?
"The Hunger Games"(2012)-People are bludgeoned, toddlers are speared, and everyone in the capital looks like the aftermath of a bad rave. Even if this really existed, I would have to watch intoxicated. Haymitch was the only smart one out of the entire dsytopia. I say, take a gin and tonic, and watch Peeta  hides like a bitch under a rock.
"Bridesmaids"(2010)-Why not?Again, big names here, well kinda. You've got Mya, Kristen, and Megan. This movie is easily going to be a classic just from the plane ride alone. There has to be two movies on her that are themed around a wedding, because its a celebration. In this movie, celebrate everything from food poisoning, fear of flying, taking lap naps, douche bag boyfriends, and even free golden retrievers. Everyone wants a golden retriever, I'll drink to that.
I didn't want to do all of the cult classic movies like "The Hangover" or "American Pie". We all know what those are about, let's get creative America. We are becoming too plain.

Now who wants to make a drinking game out of "Passion and the Christ"?
